How to buy property on the Costa Blanca: step-by-step guide

Every other Wednesday we publish practical guides for buying a home on the Costa Blanca, whether you live in Spain or are buying from abroad. Clear explanations, up-to-date figures and the questions our buyers ask us most often.

What you will find

  • Buying costs and taxes in the Valencian Community: transfer tax, VAT on new builds, notary and land registry.
  • NIE, Spanish bank account and power of attorney if you cannot travel.
  • Mortgages for residents and non-residents.
  • New build or resale, and rent with option to buy.

Key steps to buy

  1. Set your budget, including purchase costs (around 10–13% on top of the price).
  2. Get your NIE and open a bank account.
  3. Choose the area and view homes.
  4. Reserve and sign the deposit contract (arras).
  5. Sign at the notary and register the property.

Tax and legal information is for guidance only; please check with your adviser. When you are ready, browse our properties for sale in Alfaz del Pi, Albir, Altea, Benidorm, La Nucía, Finestrat and the rest of the Costa Blanca.
